Vipassana or solitude and silence in stillness

2500 years ago in Ancient India a unique meditation practice called “vipassana” arose. Its essence is to learn to perceive/see the world as it is, without sensory and evaluative colors. All this through solitude and asceticism (restrictions), which consists of fulfilling certain rules and conditions for a certain period. Vipassana teaches you to see and accept the world, yourself, and people as they are, excluding personal prisms, stereotypes of perception, and expectations.

What’s special about this practice?

The peculiarity is that for the entire period of practice, you take a vow of silence. Lunch excludes any communication, watching movies, reading social networks, SMS, or news, in a word, you cannot have any contact with the outside world and people around you. The daily schedule of a Vipassana participant consists only of many hours of meditation, self-observation, and internal dialogue.

This approach radically changes the worldview, a person tunes in with his inner voice, analyzes his emotions, feelings and reactions, thoughts. Vipassana allows you to plunge into your inner world and at the same time see the world around you without filters and masks.

Continuous self-observation opens up new opportunities and demonstrates to a person his true personality. Vipassana frees you from restrictions, stereotypes, psychological programs, and life attitudes that shape a person’s perception of the world order, without allowing looking at what is happening around you from a different angle. This provokes the same problems, situations, and events, both pleasant and not-so-pleasant. Vipassana allows you to free your mind. When this happens, a person is filled with boundless love, compassion, and warmth for himself and the world.

What does Vipassana give?

By taking a vow of silence, new sources of knowledge, perception, and sensations open up before a person. With the help of Vipassana, a person has the opportunity to clear his mind of “garbage” and mental barriers and get rid of obsessive thoughts and negative thinking.

Vipassana helps to reduce unconscious actions to a minimum – there will no longer be situations where “first I did, then I thought.” Any movement, any even fleeting thought, will become fully conscious and clear. A person who practices Vipassana first learns to be aware of his body to then learns to control his mind. During Vipassana, participants gradually dive deeper into themselves. At the same time, new facets of perception of the world around them open up for them. Many processes, feelings, and laws become very clear and understandable.

Such experience gives a deep understanding of the nature of the development and degradation of the human soul and mind. A person begins to realize where joy and suffering come from, and also understand how these mechanisms can be controlled. Many misconceptions go away, and a feeling of unshakable inner peace gives one the ability to control oneself, one’s thoughts, and emotions.

Vipassana helps to free oneself from suffering and clear the mind. Through immersion in silence and solitude, a person learns to calmly perceive any events, stops building expectations, and finally takes off those very “glasses” – be they pink, black, or gray. Vipassana helps you see the world as it is – with all its shortcomings and advantages.

What to consider when choosing Vipassana?

When you have already made a firm decision that you want to bring positive changes into your life, and you want to do this with the help of Vipassana, you need to decide on the following details:

  1. Duration (from 1 to 14 days)
  2. Format (offline or online)
  3. School/method (Goenka, Osho, or modern developments)

At the Yoga Hub club, you can take Vipassana both offline and online, and also choose the number of days you need for this practice. We also conduct Vipassana using a methodology adapted to modern society and its characteristics and needs. You can view the details of our online and offline Vipassana retreats here:

Why is the course conducted in silence?

This is the basis of the technique, and only full and universal observance of “noble silence” can allow for a deeper study of the mind-body phenomenon. Silence is observed at all levels – body, speech, and mind. The cause of many diseases is anxiety, and if you get rid of it, the diseases will go away. Vipassana opens up the opportunity to learn to be a happy and harmonious person in any situation and condition.

How to try Vipassana?

First, read the rules of participation in Vipassana! The more understanding you have about what is happening, the easier you will pass Vipassana.

If you are worried whether you will be able to remain silent and adhere to a fairly intense and strict Vipassana schedule, our club has the opportunity to complete Vipassana either in 1 or 3 days. Of course, the results you can get in such a short time compared to Vipassana for 7 or 10 days will be different. However, even 1 day of silence and meditation can bring a lot of useful things into your life! At a minimum, you will calm your mind, relieve tension, and unload your psyche. As a maximum, you will be able to find answers to questions within yourself and accumulate energy for further activities in society.
