In 2026 we have two lunar eclipses — in March and in August. The March eclipse has already passed, and I’m glad that many of you went through that day together with us: Olya Amitara and I performed a Vedic ritual in honor of the eclipse, and everyone who wished joined us online.
Eclipses have a wave-like effect: the event itself is the peak, and then for some time an inner “recalibration” continues. In such periods it becomes easier to see the truth without decoration: where you’re tired, where you’re holding on to the old, and where you’ve been ready to take a step forward for a long time.
In this article I’ve gathered the essentials about the two lunar eclipses of 2026: we’ll briefly sum up the March eclipse (what themes it highlighted and how to integrate them), and then we’ll take a detailed look at the August eclipse — its meaning in Jyotish, its phases, recommendations, and how to prepare calmly and consciously.
Why eclipses are treated as special in Jyotish

In the Vedic tradition, eclipses are connected with Rahu and Ketu — the lunar nodes, shadow planets. They are the ones that “swallow” the luminaries during eclipses. Rahu is the serpent’s head: insatiable desire, illusions. Ketu is the tail: cutting off, spirituality, liberation from attachments.
When the Moon enters Earth’s shadow and Rahu and Ketu are activated, the veil between consciousness and the subconscious becomes thinner. What we were hiding comes to the surface. Emotions intensify. Old patterns ask to be released.
This is neither bad nor good. It’s an opportunity — if you know how to use it.
Important note: what is UTC? (Kyiv example)
In the tables below, time is given in UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) — an international standard to avoid confusion across time zones.
Kyiv relative to UTC: in winter it is usually UTC+2, and during daylight saving time it is UTC+3. So if the table says 11:00 UTC, in Kyiv that will be 13:00 in winter or 14:00 in summer.
The first eclipse: March 3, 2026

Total lunar eclipse in Purva Phalguni nakshatra
This was a total lunar eclipse: the Moon entered Earth’s shadow completely, and the total phase lasted about an hour. According to timeanddate, this eclipse is the last total lunar eclipse until the end of 2028.
Times and phases (UTC)
| Phase | Time (UTC) |
| Penumbral eclipse begins | 08:44 |
| Partial eclipse begins | 09:50 |
| Totality begins | 11:04 |
| Maximum | 11:33 |
| Totality ends | 12:02 |
| Partial eclipse ends | 13:17 |
| Penumbral eclipse ends | 14:23 |
Source of calculations: timeanddate.
Where it was visible:
Best conditions — in the Pacific region, East Asia, Australia, and the western part of North America. For Russia — the farther east, the better: the Far East, Siberia.
What Jyotish says about this eclipse

The Moon was in Purva Phalguni nakshatra. This is the nakshatra of rest, creativity, and enjoyment of life. Its symbol is the back legs of a bed — a place for rest and intimacy. The ruler is Venus.
It seems like a gentle energy. But an eclipse turns it inside out.
Integration after the March eclipse (now, in March)
If after March 3 you noticed that things became “louder” inside, that’s normal. An eclipse often doesn’t give a final answer — it points to where you need to look more honestly.
To integrate this period gently:
- return to your notes/feelings from the first days after the eclipse — what kept repeating;
- choose one theme (relationships, pleasure, rest, creativity) and take one real step;
- avoid making sharp decisions “on emotion” — let conclusions mature;
- support the body with simple things: sleep, water, silence, practice.

The second eclipse: August 28, 2026

A deep partial eclipse in Shatabhisha nakshatra
Formally, this is a partial eclipse. But the shadow will cover 96% of the lunar disk — almost total. Visually it will be very dramatic: most of the Moon will be dark, reddish, and on the side there will be a thin bright crescent.
Times and phases (UTC):
| Eclipse phase | Time (UTC) | Description |
| 🌕 Penumbral begins | 00:13 | The Moon enters Earth’s penumbra |
| 🌖 Partial begins | 01:28 | The shadow begins to cover the disk |
| 🌑 Maximum | 03:12 | 96% of the Moon is in shadow |
| 🌔 Partial ends | 04:56 | The shadow leaves the disk |
| 🌕 Penumbral ends | 06:12 | The Moon fully exits the penumbra |
Where to observe:
America, Western Europe, and Africa will see the entire eclipse. For western regions of Russia and the CIS (Kaliningrad, Belarus, Ukraine) — good conditions. Moscow will catch the beginning of the eclipse low on the horizon.
Jyotish analysis of the August eclipse

The Moon will be in Shatabhisha nakshatra — one of the most mysterious and complex nakshatras. It’s called “a hundred healers” or “a hundred doctors.” The symbol is an empty circle, the ocean. The ruler is Rahu.
Interesting already, isn’t it? An eclipse connected with Rahu takes place in a nakshatra also ruled by Rahu. A double amplification of shadow energy.
What this eclipse is about:
Shatabhisha is about healing through crisis. About secrets and their revelation. About solitude that can be either isolation or conscious retreat.
Themes that may rise:
- health (especially chronic, hidden issues);
- secrets — yours and others’;
- feelings of alienation, being misunderstood;
- addictions — to substances, people, ideas;
- the boundary between helping others and saving yourself.
If the March eclipse was about pleasures and relationships, the August one is deeper and more difficult. It’s about the shadow side of the psyche — what we hide even from ourselves.
Important context:
Two weeks before it, on August 12, a total solar eclipse will take place. August 2026 is an “eclipse corridor,” a powerful transformational period. If you feel that life is falling apart, remember: it’s not destruction — it’s restructuring. Trust the process.
The Year of the Horse and Kailash
2026 is often called the Year of the Horse (in the Eastern calendar it starts not on January 1, but with Lunar/Chinese New Year).
For many practitioners worldwide, the Kora around Mount Kailash in the Horse Year is a rare “once in 12 years” cycle, perceived as a special time for inner work and rethinking one’s path.
We will also be doing the Kora. If you feel a resonance, just know that this opportunity exists: Kailash tour.
Recommendations for the August eclipse
Everything is the same: don’t start something new, don’t make fateful decisions. But for Shatabhisha I’ll add:
- Pay attention to your health, especially if you’ve been postponing checkups.
- Cleansing practices — physical and mental.
- If you feel lonely, don’t run from that feeling — stay with it.
- The mantra “Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya” helps under strong Rahu influence.

General recommendations for eclipse periods

Over the years of practice I’ve developed a simple approach to eclipses. There’s no need to fear them, lock yourself at home, and shake. But it’s worth keeping a few things in mind:
For 3 days before and 3 days after the eclipse:
- postpone important beginnings, major purchases, signing agreements;
- if a wedding, relocation, or project launch is planned — if possible move it to other dates;
- the best time for surgeries (if they are planned and can wait).
On the eclipse day:
- eat light food or fast;
- avoid alcohol;
- dedicate time to practice — meditation, mantras, yoga:
- don’t look at the eclipse for long;
- take a shower after the eclipse ends.
What is good to do:
- finish old matters;
- forgive and let go of resentments;
- meditate, especially at the moment of maximum phase;
- keep a journal — write down insights;
- charity.
If the eclipse falls on your birthday or key points of your chart
This is a separate topic. If an eclipse occurs close to your natal Moon, Sun, or Lagna, the year will be transformational. Not necessarily difficult, but definitely life-changing.
Check your chart. The March eclipse is around 18° of sidereal Leo. The August eclipse is around 11° of sidereal Aquarius. If your key points are within 5° of these degrees, pay attention to this period.
Don’t know how to check? Or want to understand exactly how the eclipses will affect your chart? You can book an individual consultation — we’ll analyze your natal chart and prepare for the eclipses together.
In conclusion
Eclipses are not punishment and not a curse. They are windows of opportunity for those who are ready to work with their shadow. The Moon enters darkness and emerges renewed. We can do the same.
Two eclipses in 2026 are two invitations to transformation. The March one is gentler — about relationships and creativity. The August one is deeper — about healing and what is hidden. Both are about letting go of the old and making room for the new.
